Why This Reference Exists

Hawaii’s custody structure does not follow the common mainland model of a sheriff-run jail in each county. The Hawaiʻi Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation operates HCCC, KCCC, MCCC, and OCCC as community correctional centers that perform the jail function, while the police departments maintain separate short-term cellblock records. DCR also operates the state prison layer. That structure makes the correct search path depend on whether the person left police holding, a DCR jail function, a prison, parole custody, or another system.

For people under DCR jurisdiction, the department’s public locator route is Hawaiʻi SAVIN/VINELink. It can report custody or parole information and support event alerts. It is not a permanent historical profile archive, so a missing result does not prove discharge.
